Coffeescript syntax highlighting for Vim

July 24, 2011

Just a brief note to heads up kchmck's great work on the coffeescript syntax highlighting for vim (on Github). I recently started experimenting with coffeescript, and found his highlight plugin a great addition to vim.

In order to use the highlighter, I think one of the best ways is to check out the latest version from github, and then use pathogen to include it into vim. For anyone not yet using Tpope's vim-pathogen I would strongly recommend it. You can then simply check out the repository into your /bundles directory and then pull the bundles into vim with the following in your .vimrc:

filetype off
    call pathogen#runtime_append_all_bundles()
    call pathogen#helptags()
    filetype plugin indent on

The slightly odd turning off filetype then turning it back on is due to a Debian/Ubuntu quirk as it is set to be on by default, and this can cause problems for pathogen.
